Next-generation genomic sequencing is improving the diagnostic yield for patients with suspected genetic disease. A molecular diagnosis for a patient with genetic disease can provide information regarding a patient’s prognosis, management and reproductive risk, and identify molecular targets for treatment. However, genomic testing frequently identifies variants of uncertain significance. This is illustrated by two case examples.

WHAT IS NORMAL FOR BABIES IN TERM OF WEIGHT GAIN AND LOSS?

From birth it is normal for a baby to lose up to 10% of their birthweight in the first three days of life. Any amount greater than that and it suggests that baby isn’t getting enough breast milk. It is normal for babies to regain their birthweight within the first two weeks of life.

Dental Care For Children

WHEN DO BABIES START TEETHING?

Teeth can start to erupt from 3 months of age in infants, but dental eruption may be as late as 12 months in some children. They may arrive in any order, but most children have all their baby teeth by the age of 3 years.

HOW DO YOU CLEAN YOUR BABIES TEETH?

You can start cleaning your baby’s gums with a damp clean cloth a couple of times a day for the first few months to get them used to the sensation of their gums being gently brushed.
